Marie’s Emerald Ring
A very special 30th birthday ring from mother to daughter. This ring was made using an heirloom emerald of her grandmothers. The ring was designed with everyday wear in mind. To cater to this, the overall ring has a relatively low profile and wide base to keep it comfortable and prevent it from catching. A bezel setting would have been the safest setting style but she wanted prongs. To keep this fragile stone safe, we opted for a little bumper of gold to protect the sides of the stone. Normally this would not be necessary but emeralds are quite fragile and this heirloom stone already had a chip in it so by adding this protection we reduce the risk of future damage to the stone. This results in the beautiful little ring of gold around the stone which adds visual weight and protection while still allowing for thick claw prongs.
She loves engraving so for the side details I engraved a laurel leaf pattern. The emerald is complemented by a pair of triangle diamonds to add a little extra sparkle. Set in bezels, the diamonds are more so an addition to the band, allowing the emerald to stay as the center of attention.
