Maria’s Wedding Band

Katie gave her engagement ring and her late husband’s wedding band to her daughter, Maria, to use for her wedding band. The diamonds from the halo were used in Maria’s band as a way of incorporating her mom into the piece. The band itself was made from the gold of her dad’s wedding band. His ring was 14K so we added more 24K gold to change the alloy to 18k to match the karat of Maria’s engagement ring. As the other half of this project, we made a pendant for her mother, Katie with the remaining gold from the dad’s band and the diamond from the engagement ring. Read more about it under Katie’s Necklace.

For the other band of the wedding band set, her now husband, Peter, used his late dad’s wedding band. For his ring I buffed out the scratches that had accumulated after 30 years of not being polished and redid the milgrain edges that had begun fading away. It’s projects like this that remind us all of the sentiment of jewelry and how it is used to keep our loved ones close.
